Beef cattle set-aside program update

Ontario

On June 17, 2020, the Governments of Canada and Ontario announced support for the creation of a beef cattle set-aside program for Ontario. The beef cattle set-aside program will provide beef farmers with up to $5 million in support. Eligible beef farmers can claim $2 per head of cattle per day to help pay for additional maintenance costs should they have to keep their market-ready animals on their farms for extended periods of time.

The Canadian Cattlemen’s Association is appreciative of this announcement and will continue to work with the federal government and in partnership with our provincial members to advocate for programs that will enable beef producers to best manage through COVID-19.
