The Canadian Cattle Identification Agency (CCIA) held its annual AGM earlier this month in Calgary, which saw Alberta Beef Producer’s Howard Bekkering elected as the new Chair of the CCIA Board of Directors.
Howard, who has been a CCIA board member since 2015, succeeds Lyle Miller (Alberta Cattle Feeders’ Association), who steps down as Chair having served his two-year term in the role. Lyle, who has overseen an incredibly successful period for the Agency, will stay for one more year, before retiring from the board, having reached the upper limit members are permitted to sit.
Other changes to the CCIA Board include Executive Committee member, Ivan Johnson (Maritime Beef Council), elected Vice-Chair, and Duncan Barnett (British Columbia Cattlemen’s Association) was elected to the Executive Committee. The CCIA is also delighted to welcome new board members Keith Gregory (Alberta Cattle Feeders’ Association) and Brian English (Manitoba Beef Producers). The CCIA’s annual Activity Report and board updates can all be viewed on the CCIA website at canadaid.ca
Also in early April, the CCIA held a special, live, webinar in association with Canadian Cattlemen Magazine, as part of its “Retention Matters” campaign. A panel of industry figures spoke about the challenges and potential solutions to tag retention, as well as answering direct questions from the audience. For those who were unable to attend, the webinar can be viewed through the “Resources” page of the retentionmatters.ca website here.
