Age Verification and the CLTS: What You Need to Know

To avoid errors, only enter birth date information in the Canadian Livestock Tracking System (CLTS) after the tag has been applied to the animal.
Linking birth dates to unused tags can lead to errors. For example, if a tag assigned a previous year’s birth date is later used on a different animal, it could falsely show the animal as over age. This misrepresentation can have financial consequences at sale time.
Remember, only the farm of origin can submit a birth date for an animal. It is best practice to submit birth date information early, before calves are sold.
