Beef Cattle Code of Practice: Why your producer voice matters

The Canadian Cattle Association (CCA) encourages beef producers across Canada to get involved in updating the Beef Cattle Code of Practice by taking a very short survey (~3-5 minutes).

Why should beef producers take the survey? The code of practice provides critical guidance for the care and handling of farm animals. It reflects our national understanding of animal care requirements, recommended practices and serves as an educational tool, reference material for regulations, and the foundation for farm animal care assessment programs.

CCA initiated an update to the 2013 Beef Cattle Code of Practice as part of the regular review cycle to keep the code current. This update will follow the process established by the National Farm Animal Care Council (NFACC). Once completed, the Code will reflect updated requirements and recommended practices for on-farm care of beef cattle. You can learn more HERE.

The important first step of the code review process is to learn what are the top three welfare topics of importance to stakeholders for the on-farm care and handling of beef cattle. Share your responses by taking the survey HERE by Friday, May 3.

As a beef producer let us know what your top animal welfare concerns are. What are your priorities on animal welfare and handling? What's working well on your operation? This is a critically important survey results and we encourage strong producer involvement to accurately reflect what’s top of mind for producers at the farm/ranch level.

*Please note, this survey is open to all - industry staff, boards and producers are encouraged to complete.

A public report of survey results will be complied and available later this summer. We encourage you to share this survey with others in your network to encourage as much producer involvement as possible in this first step.
