Canadian Cattle Youth Council welcomes new delegates after AGM

CCYC - August 23, 2024

The Canadian Cattle Youth Council was happy to be at the Canadian Beef Industry Conference in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan last week for their Annual General Meeting.

We kicked off our 2024 AGM with a Keynote from Heather Watson, made possible by Farm Management Canada. Heather gave an insightful presentation on leadership and its connection to personal and organizational success.

Over the past few months, the Youth Council has developed a “where are they now” project to identify beef industry leaders who served on the Youth Council and where their paths in the industry have led since.  Several individuals were highlighted at the AGM:

  • Erika Stewart – BC: First president of the Youth Council and is the current Saskatchewan VBP+ representative.

  • Andrea van Iterson – BC: Served on the Canadian Beef Check-Off Agency Board of Directors following her term on the Youth Council and was a committee member with Public Affairs and Education with BC Cattlemen’s Association.

  • Brodie Haugan – AB: Served on Alberta Beef Producers Board of Directors immediately following his term on the Youth Council and is now Chair of ABP Board of Directors.

  • Jeff Yorga – AB: Served on Saskatchewan Limousin Association Board of Directors, Saskatchewan Cattlemen’s Association Board of Directors, and Saskatchewan Stock Growers Association Board of Directors. He is currently the President of Saskatchewan Stock Growers Association and Vice President of Canadian Beef Grading Agency.

  • Jason Reid – ON: Served on the Beef Farmers of Ontario Board of Directors immediately following his term on the Youth Council.

Results of the Youth Council executive election and incoming delegates were announced. We are happy to welcome Emily Bromley as President and Marc Vachon as Vice President for the upcoming year. Thank you to outgoing President Scott Gerbrandt and outgoing Vice-President Kimberly Lansdall for their time on executive this past year. Scott will continue with the council as the Past President for the upcoming year.

The delegates who will be serving on the council as of the August 20, 2024 AGM are as follows:

  • BC Delegate, Rylonn Elliot

  • Alberta Delegate, Brayden Schmidt

  • Saskatchewan Delegate, Judson Christopherson

  • Manitoba Delegate, Marc Vachon

  • Ontario Delegate, Emily Bromley

  • Quebec Delegate, Syméon Couture

  • Atlantic Delegate, TBD

  • Member at Large, Past President, Scott Gerbrandt

  • Member at Large, Danika Mayer (Ontario)

  • Member at Large, Connor English (Manitoba)

A new position on the council the past two years has been the Canadian Beef Check-Off Agency Youth Member position. As Julie Mortenson’s time has come to an end in this role, we want to thank her for being the first member to fill that position. We are excited to continue this partnership with the Canadian Beef Check-Off Agency and welcome Adeleen Bolduc (Alberta) serving as the next youth member.

A special thank you to the outgoing delegates for their contributions to the Council. This includes Alberta Delegate, Kaylee Chizawsky, Member at Large and Vice President, Kimberly Lansdall (SK), Atlantic Delegate, Jacob McAffee,  and Past President serving in a Member at Large Position, Charlene Yungblut (ON).

We are excited for the year ahead with our Youth Council!
