The World Organization for Animal Health held its General Session in May. Canada was represented by a large delegation representing the beef industry including CCA, the National Cattle Feeders Association (NCFA), dairy, pork, petfood and processors. Dr. Leigh Rosengren attended as the CCA representative and Animal Health Canada Co-Chair, along with Dr. Mary Jane Ireland, Canada’s Chief Veterinary Officer and Delegate to the World Organization for Animal Health.
The groups discussed the effectiveness of the proactive public health surveillance and continued importance of a One Health approach.
Of special note and accomplishment is the adoption of revisions to the FMD chapter, which is a big step forward for Canada with its planning and preparedness. Revisions to the antimicrobial use chapter was also adopted. CCA will continue to engage with CFIA working groups on these important chapter changes.
