On Wednesday, May 27, Canadian Cattle Association (CCA) President Tyler Fulton and CCA staff Jennifer Babcock joined the Beef Farmers of Ontario's 18th Annual Queen's Park Barbecue and Advocacy Day. Tyler and Jennifer were in Toronto as negotiations between Canada and Mercosur resumed.
Tyler and Jennifer joined Ontario beef leaders, government officials, and industry stakeholders at the annual event, which serves as an important opportunity to strengthen relationships with policymakers and discuss priorities affecting Canada's beef sector.
Hosted by Beef Farmers of Ontario (BFO), the event welcomed more than 700 attendees and showcased Ontario Corn Fed Beef while creating opportunities for meaningful dialogue between producers and decision-makers. Alongside discussions on herd expansion, veterinary workforce shortages, animal care regulations, and producer competitiveness, international trade emerged as a key issue for Canada's beef industry.
Throughout the day, Tyler joined discussions on several key issues impacting the beef industry, including herd expansion, veterinary workforce shortages, animal care regulations, and international trade. Particular attention was given to concerns surrounding the proposed Mercosur trade agreement and the potential implications for Canadian beef producers.
A significant focus of conversations throughout the day was the ongoing Canada-Mercosur trade negotiations. During meetings with elected officials, Tyler joined provincial beef leaders in encouraging policymakers to remain engaged on the issue and to recognize the potential impacts that increased market access for Mercosur beef could have on Canadian producers.
While supporting the benefits of international trade, CCA continues to advocate for policies that protect the competitiveness of Canadian producers and ensure that Canadian beef is not used as a bargaining concession in trade negotiations that fail to deliver balanced benefits for the industry.
Thank you to Beef Farmers of Ontario for hosting another successful event that brought together industry and government to advance the future of Canadian beef.
