CCA, Beef Cattle Research Council (BCRC), and Canfax have been joined by summer interns who will assist in a wide variety of projects during the summer. The internships aim to help students learn about the beef industry, CCA, and about the variety of projects each CCA division is working on. Additionally, interns have the opportunity to expand their networks and build both personal and technical skills that will assist them as they enter into their careers.

We are excited to introduce our interns for this summer:

CCA Intern: Reegan Frey

Reegan’s family owns and operates Freyburn Angus Farms, a fifth-generation cattle ranch near Oxbow, Saskatchewan where they currently run approximately 200 purebred Angus and 100 Angus-influenced mama cows.

Growing up as a fifth-generation rancher, Reegan naturally gained a passion for the beef industry and participated in both local 4-H and the Saskatchewan and Canadian Junior Angus Associations. Through those organizations she was fortunate to be exposed to various opportunities that led her across North America and parts of the world. She is grateful for her experience as a Junior Angus member, participating in various Canadian Junior Angus Showdowns and GOAL (Guiding Outstanding Angus Leaders) Conferences, and very thankful for the scholarship opportunities that allowed her to pursue a post-secondary education. Reegan is also the 2025–2026 Robert C. McHaffie Junior Ambassador and will complete her term in June.

With a passion for agriculture and exposure to opportunities in the industry, Reegan chose to pursue a diploma in Agribusiness at Assiniboine Community College in Brandon, MB and is furthering her education at the University of Saskatchewan. She enrolled in the Bachelor of Science in Agriculture program with a major in Animal Science.

She is very excited to be part of the CCA team this summer and looks forward to making new connections and getting greater exposure to the Canadian beef industry beyond the seedstock sector.

BCRC Intern: Taylor Wessing

Taylor grew up on and around the farm just outside of Kelliher, Saskatchewan. She is pursuing a Bachelor of Applied Science Agribusiness Degree at Olds College and is currently completing the Directed Field Study portion of that program.

While at Olds College, she was involved in the Red Angus Judging and Showing team. These experiences have strengthened her interest in the beef industry and have served as a stepping stone for further learning.

Additionally, throughout school she has been part of multiple research projects, taking on different roles each time. Taylor has completed a couple of research projects through coursework, and recently was a Student Research Assistant. In that role, she worked to support one of her past instructors with their research—a really neat opportunity. She is passionate about learning, and looks forward to learning more about the industry through her role this summer.

Taylor looks forward to learning more about current beef research and how to use it to support producers in decision-making on their operations.

Canfax Intern: Megan Conners

Megan Conners is a Canfax Research Services Summer Intern.

She recently finished her third year in the Bachelor of Applied Science in Agribusiness program from Olds College and is currently working to complete her Directed Field Study.

Megan grew up on her family's commercial cow/calf operation in east Central Alberta which helped develop her passion for the cattle industry. Growing up, she was active in 4H as well and many other junior shows. For the past 4 years, Megan has been the Alberta Representative for the Canadian Junior Limousin Association board of directors. This experience has allowed her to travel across Canada to tour various agriculture operations and participate in many conferences.

She is very excited to be part of the Canfax team and looks forward to learning about another side of the beef industry and building new connections!
