Keeping beef on the menu doesn't mean sacrificing your sustainability goals

Climate change is impacting our societies, our natural world, and our children’s futures. We all want to be part of the solution, and some have suggested that one way the foodservice sector could improve its impact is by replacing beef dishes with plant-protein options.


My view as a rancher is that, both on the plate and on the land, there is simply no replacement for beef. Having cattle on the Canadian landscape preserves endangered grasslands, maintains wildlife habitat, and diverts byproducts and non-human grade food from landfills. These environmental benefits would be lost or drastically diminished in the absence of cattle.
