From January 31 to February 1, the Canadian Cattle Association (CCA) participated in the US National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA) annual conference in Orlando. CCA President Nathan Phinney attended the trilateral meeting between NCBA and the Mexican National Confederation of Livestock Producers (CNOG). The trilateral meeting brought together the three national cattle producer associations to discuss the Product of USA regulations, the policy priorities of each organization and the need for clarity in the labelling of cell-cultivated proteins across North America.
CCA participated in many of the sessions of the conference including policy presentations about policies and regulations impacting cattle producers south of the border, trade priorities, weather, and beef market updates. The conference was also an opportunity for CCA board and staff to network with US producers as well as the cattle organizations from Australia and New Zealand. The following week, CCA President Nathan Phinney and Executive Vice President Dennis Laycraft travelled to Washington DC alongside CNOG to communicate the risks of the Product of USA labelling. These meetings included visits with US officials, the Canadian and Mexican embassies as well as other US industry stakeholders.
