The Government of Canada recently concluded an agreement that granted access for Canadian beef to Oman. This development builds on the recent re-establishment of full market access for beef to Kuwait creating further opportunity to establish and grow beef sales in the region. Canada has not shipped beef to either country in recent years due to market restrictions.
Following Canada's first BSE case in May 2003, Kuwait was among Canada's trading partners to ban all Canadian cattle, beef and beef products. The Canadian Cattlemen's Association (CCA) remains supportive of discussions to help establish exports to the region and continues to advocate for improved market access in all markets that continue to have BSE-era restrictions.
