The Canadian Cattle Association (CCA) appeared as witnesses at the House of Commons Standing Committee on International Trade (CIIT) on May 4, 2023. CCA was invited to provide input into the Committee's study on non-tariff barriers in Canada’s international trade agreements. This opportunity allowed CCA to share examples of how non-tariff trade barriers impact beef producers in existing trade deals and current negotiations.
Jack Chaffe, chair of the Foreign Trade Committee for the CCA and a beef producer from Mitchell, Ontario, presented the opening remarks. Dennis Laycraft, the Executive Vice President of CCA, was also present to respond to questions. Chaffe's primary focus was on shedding light on some of the key non-tariff barriers that impede Canadian beef producers' ability to expand their exports.
CCA appreciated the opportunity to provide input into this study as we aim to improve access to international markets for Canadian beef exports and will share a complete list of the non-tariff trade barriers facing Canada's beef industry with committee members.
