CCA meets with Parliamentarians & officials to discuss priorities for fall session

While in Ottawa, the Canadian Cattle Association's (CCA) leadership team had the opportunity to meet with key Parliamentarians and department officials to discuss our policy priorities for the fall parliamentary session including recommendations for the next federal budget. Our budget asks include the importance of grasslands conservation, amendments to the Livestock Tax Deferral (LTD) provision, and other business risk management (BRM) programming.

CCA President, Nathan Phinney, along with CCA staff Jennifer Babcock (L) and Dennis Laycraft (R) with Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food, Lawrence MacAulay.

Trade was also a common thread in many of these conversations. Conversations with senators focused on the detrimental impacts of Bill C-282: An Act to amend the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Act (supply management), which threatens the ability for Canada to negotiate current and new free trade agreements. This bill passed through the House of Commons before summer adjournment and is now being discussed in the Senate. You can read more on CCA’s stance against Bill C-282 here.

With thousands of letters submitted by Canadians to their MP to voice their concerns with the United Kingdom's (UK’s) accession to the Comprehensive and Progressive Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), CCA’s meetings also emphasized the importance of science-based trade standards.

We look forward to continuing to build on these conversations to advocate for the beef industry throughout the fall session.
