The House of Commons Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food (the Committee) has been studying the country’s agricultural processing capacity and after submitting a brief on the subject, CCA was invited to appear before the Committee. Last Tuesday, February 23, CCA President Bob Lowe and Dennis Laycraft appeared before the Committee to share their views and recommendations on how to strengthen the national beef processing sector. As this issue is a priority for CCA, we were pleased to see the Committee’s review of the subject and anticipate that CCA’s presentation will be useful to MPs as they finalize the study and the Committee Report.
Other witnesses for this important study have included the Beef Farmers of Ontario, Beouf Quebec, among others across the commodity spectrum and supply chain. For more information on CCA’s policy position and processing capacity advocacy contact Brady Stadnicki or Fawn Jackson.
