On October 26, 2021, the Prime Minister announced his cabinet with both some surprises and continuity as relevant to agriculture. The Hon. Marie Claude Bibeau is returning to Agriculture and Agri-Food, the Hon. Mary Ng is returning as Minister of International Trade, Export Promotion, Small Business and Economic Development and the Hon. Chrystia Freeland is returning as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance. We are pleased to see a familiar face in the Hon. Sean Fraser who was brought into cabinet as the Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship.
With the continued focus on climate change, together with our partners, we will be working hard to advocate impactfully to the new minister of Environment and Climate Change, the Hon. Steven Guilbeault, to work towards evidence-based policies that are positive for all of Canada. Other notables include the Hon. Gudie Hutchings who is the new Minister of Economic Development, the Hon. Jean Yves Duclos moves to Minister of Health and the Hon. Francois Philippe Champagne stays as Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry.
Mandate letters, Parliamentary Secretaries, committee members and the Conservative Shadow Cabinet roles are yet to be released, which will all likely come in advance of November 22, 2021, when Parliament resumes.
The Canadian Cattlemen's Association (CCA) is watching these developments closely, and with the release of the mandate letters combined with CCA’s election priorities briefing note, we will be able to target and prioritize our winter advocacy efforts.
