Young beef industry leaders to speak at the World Food Forum

Updated: Oct 14, 2023

From October 16-20, 2023, three young leaders from the Canadian beef industry will be participating in the World Food Forum at the headquarters of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Rome, Italy. The event serves as a global platform to bring people together from various backgrounds around the theme, "Agrifood systems transformation accelerates climate action", with a large focus on youth.

The Canadian Cattle Association has a youth delegation participating in the event to highlight the important role of the Canadian beef industry in the climate change solution, while providing a nutrient-dense protein product to feed a growing global population.

The delegation includes;

  • Brodie Haugen, Canadian Cattle Young Leaders (CYL) Graduate and rancher

  • Jenna Sarich, Canadian Cattle Association (CCA) & Canadian Roundtable for Sustainable Beef (CRSB), Technical Consultant and Writer.

  • Jessica Radau, Canadian Cattle Association, Youth Leadership Coordinator.

We look forward to reporting on the connections made and important conversations had following the event.

CYL Graduate, Brodie Haugen.

We are excited for the opportunity for our young leaders to participate in a side event to speak on a panel at the World Food Forum titled, "Investing in Youth in Agri-Food Systems for Accelerated Climate Action". This session will highlight how to best invest in youth through existing and emerging programs, innovations, and technologies to ensure equitable access to food systems for the next generation of producers and agri-food system professionals that can accelerate climate action.

CRSB & CCA's Jenna Sarich

Jenna Sarich will be sharing work being done at the Canadian Roundtable for Sustainable Beef, while Brodie Haugen will highlight the success of the Canadian Cattle Young Leaders program and the importance of recognizing the ecological goods and services cattle farmers and ranchers are delivering to the greater good of society.

The side event will be on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at 9:00 am - 9:45 am local time in Rome. (1:00am -1:45 am MT). There is a virtual option to view this event.
