Young leaders connect with Global and Canadian McDonald's leadership

The next generation of Canada's beef industry had the unique opportunity to connect with the McDonald's Global and Canadian leadership teams on the challenges and opportunities for the future of agriculture.

On Thursday, Aug 17, 2023, Canadian Cattle Young Leaders (CYL) Graduate, Mackenzie Argent, and Canadian Cattle Association (CCA), Youth Leadership Coordinator, Jessica Radau, travelled to Spruce Grove, AB to participate in a youth panel discussion with leadership from both McDonald's and Cargill. The panel was moderated by Kim McConnell, who has been recognized with numerous awards for his leadership in agriculture, including being a Canadian Ag Hall of Fame inductee and a two-time Canadian CYL Program mentor.

The panel included discussions on what young leaders see as the biggest opportunities for growth, the essential role cattle play in environmental sustainability, career opportunities for youth in agriculture, mentorship and much more.

CCA is extremely grateful for McDonald's Canada's generous support of its Canadian CYL Program. At the Canadian Beef Industry Conference earlier this month in Calgary, AB, the Canadian CYL Program was pleased to announce McDonald's Canada's increased investment becoming the very first CYL Platinum Partner.

The day also provided a tremendous opportunity to connect with Cargill leadership and tour their Spruce Grove facility. CCA is grateful to Cargill for their longstanding support of the Canadian CYL Program as a Foundation Partner.

Back in Calgary, young beef producers and stakeholders also had the chance to connect with the McDonald's Canada team at the Canadian Beef Industry Conference on Thursday, Aug 17 for a Future of Farming luncheon. Moderated roundtable discussions allowed the next generation to share their ideas and feedback with McDonald's Canada on environmental sustainability and barriers to success.

The CCA's Canadian Cattle Young Leaders Program is made possible through the generous support of Platinum Partner, McDonald’s Canada, Foundation Partners Cargill, MNP, New Holland, and Elanco, and Gold Partners, Farm Credit Canada, Alltech, and RBC Future Launch.
